Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Inter-library Loan

Books and articles from periodicals not owned by Walsh College can be borrowed for students, faculty, and staff through inter-library loan. Before requesting an Inter-library Loan, you should seek the assistance of a reference librarian to make sure all Walsh library resources have been checked for the needed item.

Costs

There is no charge for this service.

Time Requirements

It can take from three days to three weeks to obtain requested materials.  Depending on a number of factors, materials may sometimes arrive later than three weeks.  The response time and length of the loan period is set by the lending library.

Maximum Number of Requests

The maximum number of requests is ten items at once.

Submitting Requests

The library offers two options for submitting inter-library loan requests: MeLCat and OCLC WorldCat. Each option is discussed below.

Overdue Materials

Assessment of overdue fines is at the discretion of the lending library. Generally, the fine is the cost to replace the item. After a four day grace period, a registration hold will be placed on a patron's record if he/she fails to return the overdue material. Since inter-library loan is a courtesy extended by libraries, patrons are asked to respect due dates set by the lending library.  Prompt return of borrowed items insures that libraries will not hesitate when loaning their materials to Walsh College Library.

Michigan eLibrary

Patrons can borrow books from participating libraries through MeL, the Michigan eLibrary.  Although MeL provides access to audio books, music, and movies, Walsh College Library only borrows and lends books. MelCat is the fastest service to receive a book from another library.

Interlibrary Forms

If you prefer, you may also request a book or an article by submitting the appropriate form.  Each form must contain only one request, and the information you provide should be as complete as possible. The more information you are able to provide, the greater the likelihood that the Interlibrary Loan staff can successfully process your request.  You will be notified by phone when your book arrives.

By submitting this interlibrary loan request, I agree to abide by all following copyright restrictions. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any other purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. Check out the Copyright and Licensing Guideline link on the library portal page for more information on copyright. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a photocopy order, if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve a violation of copyright law.

I REQUEST A COPY OF THE WORK ON THIS FORM FOR PURPOSES OF PRIVATE STUDY, SCHOLARSHIP, OR RESEARCH.
