The International Labour Organization (ILO) is the only tripartite U.N. agency with government, employer, and worker representatives. This tripartite structure makes the ILO a unique forum in which the governments and the social partners of the economy of its 183 Member States can freely and openly debate and elaborate labour standards and policies

The ITUC is the main international trade union organization, representing the interests of working people worldwide; founded in 2006 it combined International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) and the World Confederation of Labour (WCL).

SEIU is a labor organization with over 2 million members in North America in the areas of healthcare, property services, and public services.

AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. is the nation's largest and fastest growing public service employees union.

The American Federation of Teachers, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO, was founded in 1916 and today represents 1.5 million members in more than 3,000 local affiliates nationwide.

Founded in 1974, the CLUW claims to be America's only national organiation for union women.

CWA, the largest telecommunications union in the world, represents over 700,000 men and women in both private and public sectors, including over half a million workers who are building the Information Highway.
CWA members work in telecommunications, broadcasting, cable TV, journalism, publishing, manufacturing, airlines, customer service, government service, health care, education and other fields.

The TWU has four main divisions: Railroad; Gaming; Airline; Transit; and Utility, University and Service. The Union has 114 autonomous locals representing over 200,000 members and retirees in 22 states around the country.

The data on union membership were collected as part of the Current Population
Survey (CPS), a monthly sample survey of about 60,000 households that obtains
information on employment and unemployment among the nation's civilian
non-institutional population age 16 and over.

The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is one of the largest and most diverse unions in North America, with members in virtually every sector of the economy. The UAW has more than 390,000 active members and more than 600,000 retired members in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
